The School of Psychology of Zhejiang Normal University is a newly established research-oriented school in 2022, formerly known as the Department of Psychology established in 2000. It has a national first-class undergraduate construction program in applied psychology, a doctoral program in the first-level discipline of psychology, the first cross-disciplinary doctoral program in neuroscience of teacher education in China, and a post-doctoral research station in psychology, and it has built a talent cultivation system of bachelor's-master's-degree and doctoral degree in psychology, with more than 300 undergraduates and 500 master's and doctoral degree students currently studying in the school.

The college attaches great importance to the construction of faculty. Top psychologists at home and abroad are hired to guide the construction of the discipline and the growth of young teachers. We have employed Prof. Lin Chongde, former president of the Chinese Psychological Association and senior professor of liberal arts at Beijing Normal University, as a dual-appointed professor, Prof. Yue Guoan, former president of the Chinese Psychological Association and president of the Chinese Society of Social Psychology, as a distinguished professor, and Prof. Zhou Xiaolin, former president of the Chinese Psychological Association and a national leading talent of Peking University, as the dean of the Institute of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Professor Li Kang, Professor Chen Chuan-sheng and Professor Zhu Shuhong, famous Chinese psychologists, have been appointed to guide the construction of related disciplines. The college has strong faculty. Prof. Li Weijian, member of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Psychology in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education and executive director of the Chinese Psychological Association, is the head of Psychology, Prof. Sun Binghai, executive director of the Chinese Society of Social Psychology, vice director of the Psychological Association of Zhejiang Province, and young talent of the National Major Talent Program, is the head of the Neuroscience Direction of Teacher Education, and Prof. Ren Jun, director of the International Society of Positive Psychology (IPPA), is the head of the Health and Prof. Ren Jun, director of International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA), is in charge of the direction of health and social psychology, Prof. Cao Xiaohua, vice chairman of the Language Psychology Committee of Chinese Psychological Association, is in charge of the direction of developmental cognitive neuroscience, and Prof. Wang Jun, a leading talent at provincial level, is in charge of the direction of basic psychology. There are more than 50 teaching staff, including 12 professors and 11 associate professors, and the proportion of full-time teachers with doctoral degree reaches 95%; there are more than 20 talents of various kinds, such as members of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Psychology in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, the second level of the Provincial 151 Talent Echelon, provincial young and middle-aged discipline leaders, provincial university innovation leaders, and young scholars of Zhijiang.

The college adheres to the fundamental task of promoting moral education, and takes the cultivation of psychological talents with international vision, responsibility, dedication, high aspirations and excellent skills as the primary task. Since 2001, undergraduates have been recruited in the direction of mental health education in the major of education, and since 2002, undergraduates have been recruited in the direction of applied psychology, which has been approved to become a provincial key major (2007), Zhejiang Province's “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” (2012) and “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”. “Advantageous Majors” (2016), approved as a national first-class major construction site in 2019, and ranked No. 7 in the latest ‘Evaluation Report of Chinese Universities and Disciplines and Specialties’ in the national ranking of Applied Psychology majors (2022-2023). It has a virtual teaching and research office of the Ministry of Education, “Virtual Teaching and Research Office of Core Courses of Psychology”, and two national first-class courses, “Psychological Counseling for Secondary School Students” and “Experimental Psychology”, five provincial high-quality courses, such as “Educational Psychology”, and provincial high-quality courses on ideology and politics, such as “Social Psychology”. Outstanding graduates Hu Xiaoqing became a national-level young talent recipient and a professor at the University of Hong Kong, Pan Yafeng, Wu Haiyan, Hu Chao, Qian Miao, Wang Qiandong and so on grew up to be young professors and scholars at Zhejiang University, University of Macau, Southeast University, Harvard University and Beijing Normal University, etc. A large number of undergraduate and master's degree graduates have been admitted to Peking University, Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Southwest University of China, University of Hong Kong, University of Toronto, Humboldt University, Jena University, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and other well-known universities at home and abroad for further study. In the past three years, the undergraduate admission score line of 620 points or more ranked first among similar majors in provincial universities, and the number of postgraduates applying for the examination is more than 1,000 each year, with a good quality of student source. College of Psychology focuses on the core task of talent cultivation and vigorously carries out teaching reform, and in the past five years, it has won three second prizes of National Teaching Achievement Award and 10 teaching achievement awards at provincial and ministerial levels.

The college insists on the leading position of discipline construction, and focuses on building the first-class discipline of psychology. It is the earliest among the universities in Zhejiang Province to be approved as a first-class master's degree (2005) and doctoral degree (2018), a provincial key discipline and a first-class discipline (Class A) in Zhejiang Province, and is also the only psychological discipline funded by the key construction universities in Zhejiang Province. In the fourth round of discipline assessment by the Ministry of Education, the discipline of psychology was rated B-. It has one model base for joint cultivation of professional postgraduates and two provincial bases recognized by the National Steering Committee for Postgraduate Education in Applied Psychology. In the past six years, it has undertaken more than 60 national and provincial projects, such as major bidding projects of the National Social Science Program and surface projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has published more than 250 papers in well-known academic journals at home and abroad, such as Psychological Science, Child Development, and Journal of Psychology, as well as more than 20 books. It has won the first prize of National Excellent Achievements in Educational Science, and a number of prizes of Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Science in Zhejiang Province.

The college attaches great importance to the cross-fertilization of disciplines and vigorously strengthens the construction of disciplinary platforms and laboratories. It has the key laboratory of philosophy and social sciences of Zhejiang Province, “Intelligent Laboratory of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Crisis Intervention of Zhejiang Province” and “Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Psychology of Zhejiang Province” and other important platforms; it has shared the key laboratory of Intelligent Educational Technology and Application of Zhejiang Province with the disciplines of education and computer science; it has built and shared the key laboratory of Intelligent Educational Technology and Application of Zhejiang Province. It also shares the key laboratory of intelligent education technology and application with education and computer science disciplines, and shares the Tian Jiabing Moral Education Research Center of Zhejiang Normal University, which is the first “Moral Education Neuroscience Laboratory” in China. The Psychology Laboratory has a total area of more than 1,000 square meters and is equipped with advanced instruments and equipments including near-infrared brain function imager, 128-conductor electroencephalograph, biosignal processing system and oculomotor apparatus, with a total value of more than 16 million RMB. There are school-level research institutes such as the Institute of Psychology and Brain Science, Parent Education Research Center, Applied Psychosocial Research Center, and Social Cognitive Neuroscience Research Institute, and the mid-Zhejiang Family Education Research Center is jointly established with the Jinhua Women's Federation. The School of Psychology actively serves the needs of the country and the strategy of the province, extensively utilizes the research results of psychology to carry out social service work, and has formed a good social reputation at home and abroad.

The School of Psychology has formed more distinctive features in the fields of Health Psychology (direction of positive psychology), Educational Psychology (direction of teacher education neuroscience), Social Psychology (direction of social trust and family education), Teacher Psychology (direction of teacher empathy research), Applied Psychology (direction of crisis intervention). As early as typhoon Sangmei, the psychological crisis intervention activities, the establishment of the first domestic provincial primary and secondary school mental health education supervisory headquarters, the first to carry out the digital reform of primary and secondary school mental health services, to promote the Zhuji, Tongxiang, Longyou and other regional mental health education model, to create an “important window” of mental health education in Zhejiang. In the country's earliest to carry out primary and secondary schools with moral education reform, is the first to carry out “with moral education” of the provincial experimental area, to promote the majority of primary and secondary schools to use the excellent traditional culture and other characteristics of the resources to guide the majority of primary and secondary school students in the enjoyable, full participation to improve the moral literacy.
